“I find force preparation to be one of the most stressful parts of any exercise – making sure you and your men have packed everything, memorising attack routes and defense plans by heart. It’s a relief when H Hour comes and we finally get to move out and DO something!” – CPT Chin, (erstwhile) D Wing PC

I was never much of an infanteer, but I retain lots of regard for this PC (who liked pulling you in for a one-on-one interview, where he cocked his head and compared you favourably to a previous cadet, before cogently elaborating why he thought you were cut out to be more than you felt you were). Anyway his sentiment about force prep proves uncannily relevant two years later. Departure is plainly “next Friday”, at last – can’t wait to fast-forward to the moment that I traipse through departure gates and stop being able to worry about whether I packed one too few thermal underwears…
