a series of unfortunate events

NATIONAL DAY IS OVER.

It was a success by all measures and everyone left looking upbeat and satisfied and I thank God for that.

(I’m not sure how much I can say before I’m hauled into the authorities’ office and lashed with the Whip of Knowledge of Discretion -) At the root of it, being a councillor is a lesson in servility, in humility more than anything else. I guess I signed up anticipating quite different things but at the end of the day, that turtle-shaped badge is a seal of bondage that ties you to the Welfare Of The School. And it means that when you see your biggest game cancelled due to Time Constraints three minutes before it is due on stage, you accept it.

I’m not sure how best to put this into context, but a few things sprang into mind. The late-nights with Penny & Patty writing out 1,368 lucky draw tickets, editing a Spot The Difference picture five or six times for an ultimately insignificant difference in effect, packing six 1.5 litre bottles chock-full with Honey Stars for a five minute game.

Time constraints, huh. I’m sure that must have been important too.

    • LOLOLOL SEXIEST LEGS WANNABE!!! thanks man I trust you had a great time nonetheless :D

dashofhope: Nicole from council? um okay <3 u too lulz THANX FOR HELPING!!! KBOXXXXXXXX~

LKC: haha yes I think it would have been interesting, notwithstanding difficult staging and operation (my brilliant GC idea sigh). gym did well!!

      • Hahaha too bad, when I saw Daniel Tay coming on stage I knew I lost already hahaha.

Hmm, give me some Honey Stars! Its me fave cereal mmm.

  1. MATTY!

All I can say is, I couldn’t have met a more dedicated bunch of people that is the ndpeeps (like you guys) that really made me so willing to stay in school so late everyday just to do the noticeboard, the stars and everything natday related. And I really think you guys are AWESOME! I LOVE NDPEEPS (:

    <3!

  2. i was wondering what happened to the lucky draw tickets and if the councillors had deliberately kept all the prizes for themselves haha. but oh well! you can uh, always play those games in class – i’m sure douglas especially will happily oblige you. XD incidentally what were the honey stars for?

    • $^#$%^ I wish we could keep them, I’m not sure what they’re doing with the

      1) MP3 player
      2) Swensen’s voucher
      3) $70 teddy bear
      4) Philips headphones
      5) Photo frame
      6) 5x Starbucks tumblers

which my comm spent days amassing, but I’m pretty sure we get to finish the Honey Stars. We bought six ECONOPACKS and only used up three? They were for a “The Price is Right”-esque game, people had to guess how many stars there were! A *considerable* number of honey stars. We popped them in one by one, it was pure hell

I know you said that you didn’t have time to think about it while you were still up in the AV box (where you guys did a super mighty good job, well done!!), but when I first received word that it was cancelled I stoned backstage for quite some time and just thought of everything you mentioned in your penultimate paragraph and it was overwhelming like seriuzly I just thought of you guys and then after a long while (yaaa v long while lol) I realised that you’re right we just have to accept it. But whatever it is they can’t take away the ~memories that we built through shared experiences~ whether it was writing 1368 (and pasting stickers how could you forget) lucky draw tickets, or running all over the place looking for prizes and neon worms (hehe need to tell you something soon just in case you didn’t hear about it haha), filling bottles with stars one by one or coming up with an insanely difficult math question…oh and all the talk of our qian tus and all that mindless teasing haha gosh and staying in school till late and the canteen lights are all off…and getting kicked out of the council room oh no i’ll miss you and patty!! Games Gomm forever, no one else will ever ~truly~ understand how it feels like to have a baby die before it’s even born. omg i am so sure that there is a chengyu for this

(omg nice shit, longest comment ever)

  4. Hey Matty,

First time reading your blog. it’s quite interesting! (:

Yup you’re right. We did our best in whatever could be done and in the end, although not everything worked out well, we still did a great job!

I believe we worked so hard esp. during the last 3 weeks or so where we had meetings almost every day because we were afraid that if we didn’t put in our best effort, we would regret it. So I don’t regret anything that we’ve done. Although we weren’t really happy when the teachers told us that we couldn’t just have a lucky draw, we did our best to make it fun. And that gave us lots of “shared experiences” like counting honey stars!

I’ve really enjoyed all the time I’ve had with Penny and you. Although we haven’t known each other for long, all the “shared experiences” have shown that I’ve found myself 2 great friends!

So thanks Matty and thanks Penny! (:

    • why you sad face cheer up yo or I be sad </3

HAHA KIDDING YOU CAN GO BE SAD FOR ALL I CARE LULULUL

(oh shit your birthday coming soon sorry I take back everything)

  5. Penny and Patty actually sound like the names you would give to your best 2 imaginary friends in Council.

(NO OFFENSE, PENNY AND PATTY, (that is, if you really exist) I’M SURE YOU ARE REAL PEOPLE WITH HEARTS AND EMOTIONS AND FEELINGS AND BRAINS AND EYES AND EARS AND NOSES AND FACES AND GALLBLADDERS)

How did you like my class’ awesome response to the SMS GAME?! That was total awesome man oh gosh.

And I can totally feel your pain but NO DON’T GET JADED MATTHEW CHAN YOU ONLY GOT LIKE, A COUPLE MONTHS LEFT AND YOU WILL BE OFF COUNCIL WORK.

I am tempted to slide in some seemingly hurtful comment in jest, but I shall resist. RESIST!
